The Burlap And Cotton message and initiative was formed out of unfair workplace practices and treatment against women and men of color. Places where we are expected to have no say or voice in what happens to our conditions. We go to work in offices, factories, stores and a number of entities where we are subject to second-class citizenship.
As a recipient and target of harsh work practices as a person of color and a Black Woman, I'm asking people to support this campaign in solidarity for the unjust and racial disparities in the workplace.
Although we worked in burlap while picking America's cotton...for FREE; in many ways we're expected to show up and remain subservient to the modern "liberal" overseers of today.
The campaign #burlapandcotton is ignited to bring attention to racial disparities and inequities in corporations, retail, entertainment, government and municipalities. Not just in place like the City of Jersey City, but within all places of employment where our voices are punished when we speak up in any form.
Remember, we are all Rooted in Resilience,
Alita Carter
